IN THE NEWS
** Since 1948, the San Clemente Junior Woman's Club has been giving back through volunteerism and financial support to it's community. The SCJWC turned 71 years old in 2019! **Thank you to everyone who contributed to making our Derby Days Charity Gala a huge success. Our fundraising efforts for our 71st year of giving celebration exceeded our expectations and we have many wonderful and generous people to thank. We are so thankful to our sponsors, donors, community, friends, families, and to Bella Collina Towne & Golf Club. We have to especially thank our benefit
auctioneer Kenny Shirey Jr. of California Coast Auctions who delivered an amazing night of fun and giving. The generosity this evening was amazing and we were able to raise over $100k to benefit our community. About 200 guests enjoyed a beautiful evening of delicious cuisine, music and entertainment. DJ Deeran rocked the house with the perfect selection of music. We were also so excited to have CHOC Neuroscience Institute as our fund-a-need recipient. We were able to donate $53,000 to help remodel their playroom as well as provide mobile equipment that allows children who would normally not be able to go to the playroom to now enjoy the space. We recently found out they received full funding to complete this entire project and have begun working on it. We cannot wait to see CHOC’s innovative playroom. Cheers to 71 years of giving SCJWC!
**The City of San Clemente's Sensational Springtacular was a really fun event. The Juniors had a great time volunteering at the cookie decorating booth. A lot of families attended and the egg hunt was neat to watch.
**SCJWC participated in the Memorial Day Wreath Presentation on 5/27 at the Memorial Day Observance In Remembrance of Our Fallen Military Heroes at the San Clemente Community Center. We presented a wreath to the Mayor in honor of all the branches of the United States Military.
** Our annual holiday Angel Tree was a great success with just under 400 ornaments/gift requests donated to needy children, teens, and seniors. Gifts were sorted and delivered to the recipients at the following organizations: Laura's House, Family Assistance Ministries, San Clemente Senior Center, Boys and Girls Club and RIO Adult Day Health Care Center. A big thank you to all the residents of San Clemente and beyond that participated!
** Members cut and tied 44 fleece blankets at a General Meeting. Upon completion, blankets were donated to CHOC in Orange. This project has become an annual activity as it is near and dear to our hearts to continue to reach out and assist children in as many ways that we can.
** To focus their efforts toward International Affairs, the members of the SCJWC collected over 120 baby shower gifts to be presented in gift bags to expectant mothers and their babies in partnership with New Life Maternity in San Diego. Items collected included diapers, wipes, baby bottles, onsies, baby wash and personal care items. Gift bags will be given to the Mamas during the New Life Maternity baby shower later this Fall. New Life's mission is to support and empower refugee women through pregnancy, birth and postpartum.
